About Us

www.sapphireselection.com is operated by Worldwide Gems Ltd., who are a gemstone wholesaler based in New Zealand.  We are a registered company and have been operating for over 30 years.  However, age has crept up on us and we are now in retirement mode.  This has been ongoing for the past few years, but we are now focusing on moving our stock out more quickly, hopefully  before the grim reaper “comes a knocking”.  In order to accomplish this, we are selling down our remaining stock at our cost.  This stock consists of recently cut lots from our facet rough of Amethyst, Citrine, Rhodolite Garnet, plus several other odds and ends, but is mostly composed of a good-sized stock of Australian Sapphire. The rough material for this Sapphire stock was sourced directly from the mines in Queensland a good number of years ago and since the quantity is far greater than I can cut personally, we have been having it cut for us by a number of cutting factory’s we use in Sri Lanka.  Since we continued buying rough periodically, we have built up a good stock of cut material.  This is ongoing since we still have faceting rough on hand.  Luckily, my wife forced me to stop buying rough several years ago, so we are now looking at a finite supply.  🙂

All of our stock is guaranteed to be as described.  If its “low grade and dark” or “high grade top colour but a little windowed” that will be in the description.  We describe it as we see it, NOT as we would like it to be.

  • If it’s shown on the website, we have it in stock now and it’s ready to go.
  • If what you want is not shown on the website, please email me and ask.  I may have it but not listed it yet.  It takes quite a long time to sort out lots, arrange them, do photos and descriptions and load them up.  I have large quantities sitting in our bank vault waiting to be sorted so I’m guessing it will take me months to get them listed.

Please be aware that periodically we get fresh stock back from the cutting operations.  This may mean that prices may go up (or down) for any given product category.  Obviously final cost is predicated on cost of rough, sellable yield and cutting costs etc.  Sometimes different factory’s produce differing results for various reasons.
